„Nocebo effect“ – when the fear of illness makes one ill

„Fear endangers health“, says Magnus Heier, the famed neurologist and medical journalist. In his current book he writes extensively about the „nocebo-effect“. Like the placebo effect, this phenomenon suggests that fear of illness makes one ill. This means that under certain circumstances our expectations concerning our health can determine its course. That is why it is always better to have a health check-up done and acquire certainty about one’s own state of health, than to be plagued for years by fear about diseases, such as those that run in the family.
Every forth manager affected by health risks

Young, dynamic, successful − for many this is the recipe for happiness. Yet some persons who are fully committed to their professional lives and absorbed by their jobs live dangerously. The health of every fourth business leader in this country is in jeopardy. This is the result of an investigation of the „ias Institute for Labour and Social Hygene Foundation“(“ias Institut für Arbeits- und Sozialhygiene Stiftung) in Karlsruhe. The classic manager diseases such as stomach ulcer and heart attack mostly strike people who do not see their health for what it really is: an important basis for their success. These health risks can be clarified with the special business check of the Diagnoseklinik. It sheds light on the state of health of people who are professionally very involved.
